Governors

The purpose of a governing body is to help provide the best possible education for pupils. Details of the members of our Governing Body can be found below:

Governors meet regularly with the Head teacher and staff to decide the school’s aims and policies, and to oversee the efficient running of the school.  The governing body has the following core strategic functions:

Establishing the strategic direction, by:

  • setting the vision, values, and objectives for the school
  • agreeing the school improvement strategy with priorities and targets
  • meeting statutory duties.

Ensuring accountability, by:

  • appointing the headteacher
  • monitoring progress towards targets
  • performance managing the headteacher
  • engaging with stakeholders
  • contributing to school self-evaluation.

Ensuring financial probity, by:

  • setting the budget
  • monitoring spending against the budget
  • ensuring value for money is obtained
  • ensuring risks to the organisation are managed.

In addition to meeting as a full Governing Body, 2 committees meet to fulfil these strategic functions in relation to Pay and Admissions:

The Governing Body works in partnership the Local Authority and Archdiocese of Liverpool.

The Protocols below were issued to governing bodies of Archdiocesan voluntary aided schools and boards of directors of Catholic Multi-Academy Trusts (with an obligation to procure and monitor the compliance of local governing bodies), by the Archdiocese effective from 1st September 2025.

These protocols set out the principles for a committed working relationship between the Archdicoese of Liverpool and the Governing Body of St Lewis' Catholic Primary School, to underpin the effective running of our Catholic school.
